The Kijiji Challenge!

Or, if you prefer, Craigslist.

I thought it may be fun for all of us to get play along.

The challenge is…pretend you are horse shopping and have a budget of $500.00.  Check out either of the above sites and try to find a gem for under $500.00.   Post that find in the comments,  I think this might be very interesting, as readers here are spread out all over North America.

I do not think you can insert photos in the comments, so you can just cut/paste the link, I will put the photos and text in tomorrows post and we can vote on a winner.

I cannot do the paste thing, but I want to play. There are to many horses under $500 for me to take the time to wade through, so I just looked for free horses for my entries.

CL, Inland empire, farm and garden, found looking under free horse.

    “Sweet gelding companion/leadline home”
Really nice looking horse, they say he has arthritis, if that is all that is wrong with him, supplements and proper riding may make him serviceably sound.

I’m going to cheat and put up 2 entries, because there several to choose from, and I liked this gal too.

    “free older horse (murrietta)”

Seems like she may be sound, and at only 19 she could be a real find.

Thanks for playing along 🙂 If you want to copy/paste a pic just right click on it, select copy then come to the box here and right click again and select paste.
Hmmm free horses, that’s probably an even better idea!

    Best of the bunch:
    Running Quarter Horse Gelding –
Two Step Twister Sire: Par Bar Bonanza Dame: Two Step Two 3 year old gelding. Has had deworming every 3 months and professional trims. Has been clipped, bathed, is kind and gentle.

Pictures are out of date, and don’t show much, but looks like an easy project for someone to love on.

Grrr. This is not the first time I’ve commented and it not show up the first time. Not sure what’s with that…am I getting shunted into the spam folder because of my all caps name?

Anyway, I actually happen to live in an area where horse prices are still reasonable and finding something for $500 was tough.

My offering is thus exactly at $500:

I’d take a risk on this horse. He’s a touch downhill and MAY have slightly upright pasterns in front, or it may be how he’s standing. The owner is honest about him being horribly out of shape – but I’ve fixed that before. It’s time consuming, but easy. I won’t believe him being beginner friendly until he’s back in shape, but I’d definitely give him a chance. In the market here if you got him fit and taught him to jump you could easily get 3-4k for him assuming he’s sound.

…and suddenly my previous one becomes visible. Please delete the second? I can’t do it myself.

I’m sorry CHV I have no idea what is going on with that, I cannot see your other post here, but it is in my comments to approve list, so I just didn’t approve it. I don’t understand, if I approve someone once usually WP just adds their comments automatically after that. That’s the first time I have had to approve you.
I suppose WP is just having an odd day, sometimes it won’t let me put spaces between paragraphs, and one of my pet peeves is reading on huge blog with no paragraphs!

This happened once before, but I can’t remember which blog it was…it was *either* this one or Snarky Rider.

Since you love Apps, and he’s a leopard: We have a glut in the Twin Cities. Not my type, and no good pictures, but looks like he could be a great horse for a lot of years.

This is the one I would get in a heartbeat:

Young Arabian Mare – $500 (Paynesville)
Priced to sell, great quality registered mare! Endurance, hunter or Dressage/sport horse prospect with beautiful floating trot. Deep heart girth, tall, and long legs. Super sweet mare that has great potential. She has ground work training started, but has not been saddled or backed. Price does not reflect her quality.
